Welcome to this Photoshop Tutorial! Today we will be creating this logo:

My goal with this tutorial is to teach you how to design this Internet Computer / Dfinity Logo regardless of your skill level – all you will need are two things:
1. Photoshop (I’m using CC 2017)
2. The “Constantia” font in bold (which is a default Windows font that you should already have, if not search “Constantia Bold Font Download” on Google to find it!)
All set? Let’s get started!
Step 1
Create a new Photoshop document 900×900 pixels at 72 pixels/inch with 8 bit RGB color and background set to “Transparent”.

Set your foreground color to #0f0f0f and use the “Paint Bucket Tool” (hotkey: G) to fill the canvas. You should now have this:

Step 2
Select the “Horizontal Type Tool”, set your font to “Constantia” size 960pt with anti-aliasing set to “Smooth” and the text color set to #29abe2.

Now from the taskbar open Window > Character and use these settings:

Now click into the canvas and type “∞” and use the “Move Tool” (hotkey: V) to move it to the center of the canvas. You should now have this:

Step 3
Select the “Ellipse Tool” and make sure it’s set to “Path” on the top left side of the taskbar and draw a small circle over the logo, the size doesn’t matter.

Now from the taskbar go to Window > Properties to open the Properties menu if it’s not already opened and set the circle to 309 width & height.

Hold Ctrl then click and drag the circle to this spot:

Step 4
Right click the circle and choose “Make Selection”, now select the “Zoom Tool” (hotkey: Z) and zoom in (you can double click the zoom tool to switch back to 100% zoom later any time you do this), then select the “Polygonal Lasso Tool”, hold shift, and draw this shape to add to the selection (be sure to to draw a line cutting off the center section like I’ve done):

Step 5
Press Shift+Ctrl+N to create a new layer above the text layer, right click this new layer and choose “Create Clipping Mask”

Now select the “Gradient Tool” (hotkey: G – may need to right click the “Paint Bucket Tool” to find it) and use the color #522785 at 0% Location and #eb1e7a at 100%.

Now draw a line inside your selection as shown (press Ctrl+D after you’re done to deselect):

Step 6
Right click your gradient layer and choose “Duplicate Layer” and on the taskbar go to Edit > Transform > Rotate 180°, select the “Move Tool” (hotkey: V) and move it to the right as I have done here:

Step 7
Zoom in using the “Zoom Tool” then select the “Polygonal Lasso Tool” once again and draw a shape as I’ve shown:

Now select the “Brush Tool” (hotkey: B) and choose any solid round brush and drag the brush across the selection to fill it with any color (I used #eb1e7a). Use Ctrl+D to deselect after.

Step 8
Now right click this layer, open “Blending Options” and select “Gradient Overlay”, click the gradient bar to open the “Gradient Editor” window, create a new gradient, and use these settings: #f15a24 (Location: 30%) and #fbb03b (location 100%) – make sure the angle is -30° and your settings look like this:

Click “OK” on both windows to save your changes and you should now have this result:

Step 9
We could stop here, but let’s touch it up a bit! Hold Shift, then select your two gradient layers and the “∞” text layer.

Now merge these layers (hotkey: Ctrl+E).

Now zoom in, select the “Polygonal Lasso Tool” and make a selection like shown.

Now select the “Brush Tool” (hotkey: B) again and brush over it with the color #29abe2 to fill the selection. Afterwords press Ctrl+D to deselect.

Step 10
Make a new layer (hotkey: Shift+Ctrl+N), right click this layer & choose “Create Clipping Mask”. Now select the “Polygonal Lasso Tool” again and make a selection like shown:

Now select the “Gradient Tool”, set your foreground color to black (#000000) (hotkey: D) and use the “Foreground to Transparent” gradient (2nd default preset).

Using the gradient tool, drag your mouse across the selection as shown to add a shadow.

Now press Ctrl+D to deselect and change the layer mode (at the top of the Layers panel) from “Normal” to “Soft Light” with a layer Opacity of 63%.

You should now have this:

Make a new layer (hotkey: Shift+Ctrl+N), select the “Polygonal Lasso Tool” again and make a selection like shown below and using the “Gradient Tool” (hotkey: G), drag across to make another shadow like shown:

Press Ctrl+D to deselect and once again set this layer to “Soft Light” but this time with an Opacity of 79%. You should now have this:

Step 11
Right click the logo layer and select “Blending Options” – the logo layer is the one that the two clipping mask shadow layers you just made are attached to, it should be the one highlighted as shown here:

In the “Blending Options” window, choose “Inner Glow” and use these settings:

Now click “OK” to save your changes.
